SPPEXA Phase I

The German Research Foundation has established in October 2011, the Priority Program 1648 "software for exascale computing" (SPPEXA). The program is set up for six years and promotes basic research in the field of HPC software. The main objective is to find viable solutions for the great challenges of HPC in the paradigm shift from moderate parallel (64-1024 Cores) to massively parallel systems with more than ten million cores, a power of one quintillion floating-point operations and beyond. SPPEXA addressed in particular the connection of relevant application areas of mathematics and computer science with the requirements in the areas of "Computational Science and Engineering" (CSE) and HPC.
