Description

Today numerical simulation is absolutely essential for research and development of industrial products. It makes data accessible, which cannot be obtained by experiments. Therefore, it improves the profitability, environmental sustainability, durability and safety of newly developed systems. The numerical simulation is a key factor for the competitiveness of the German industry.

Available CFD tools however reach their limit at complex flow problems, because they have not been designed for massive parallel simulations.

The project team develops a CFD tool for real gas and multiphase flows, which takes into account new hardware architectures and exploits them. The CFD tool FLEXI, developed at the IAG (University of Stuttgart), is used as a basis. The researchers want to enhance it further for massive parallel industrial applications by i.e. improving efficiency of the communication between computational cores.

The project aim is an Open-Source CFD tool. The Robert Bosch GmbH wants to couple it with its own software libraries to simulate complex flows within Bosch products for the product development.
