About Deutscher Wetterdienst

Germany's National Meteorological Service, the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD), is responsible for meeting the meteorological requirements in all areas of economy and society in Germany. These include the meteorological safeguarding of aviation and marine shipping and the issuing of official warnings about dangerous weather phenomena. Other important tasks of the DWD are to provide services for the federal government and the federal states as well as to fulfil the international commitments of the Federal Republic of Germany. Since 1966, the DWD has been using numerical prediction models and high-performance computers to perform its tasks.
